About 150 years ago a noble Frenchman – Berlioz – says ‘When words leave off, Music begins’. Dressing with words an emotion, feeling or an idea has always been an obstacle for an artist.

Music is one of the very few universal arts that succeed in bringing people together regardless of sex, religion, ethos or nationality. Music lives in a different dimension, a dimension in which concepts such as Schengen, EU or Customs do not exist, a dimension where even time and space are different from what we are accustomed of.

The project WITHOUT BORDERS contains much (and not only) music. Photography, video and words are the language it uses to tell the stories of Bulgarian musicians that live and create music somewhere in the world – Barcelona, Zurich, London, Chicago and many more. This is a big project which goes through several phases – it starts with the travelling, meetings, conversations and photocessions, goes through the concerts there and here, and ends with exhibits and projections.

WITHOUT BORDERS gives the opportunity to our audience to meet noble Bulgarian musicians, who do not reside in Bulgaria but instead have ended up where their music has led them. This is not only an emotional journey, but mainly (as described in the project’s website) a journey to the soul.

This grand initiative is being supported on the brittle shoulders and enormous enthusiasm of the photographer Blaga Dimitrova and her assistants. Last year they introduced more than ten musicians and organised five concerts in Sofia. The journey continues this year, and the following year too. Right now we are at the exhilarating phase of concerts and projections in Sofia.

That is perhaps this year’s final opportunity of receiving a universal visa, valid for the entire world.

About the project

"Without borders" is a journey to the soul. For our musicians, who depart, but we await their return. For our musicians, who return, but depart once again. For our musicians, who travel the world and return back to us. And for those of them who come from "outside". "Without borders" speaks about all of them beyond any words. "Without borders" brings them back to us, just for a short little while, through the making of one, two, even three concerts in Sofia.
